A stonecutter once felt unhappy with his life. Every day,
he wished to be someone greater. He wished to be a king — and suddenly, he became one. But soon he saw the sun, more powerful than him, and wished to be the sun. He became the sun. Then the clouds covered him, and he wished to be a cloud. He became the cloud. But the wind blew him away, so he wished to be the wind. He became the wind. Then the wind hit a mountain but could not move it. He wished to be a mountain.
He became the mountain. Finally, he felt the sharp strike of a stonecutter’s chisel against him — and realized the stonecutter was stronger than the mountain. At that moment, he understood: he was already valuable as he was.
Moral of the story:
Comparing ourselves to others blinds us to our own worth. True strength lies in being yourself.
